Cherrine Robertson Allen
March 1999
|
Our Best Friend, and Fellow Class of '88 alumni, Cherrine Robertson Allen passed away on March 19, 1999 after a lifetime struggle with Diabetes. She is survived by her Husband, Andy, her beautiful daughter, Taylor and her loving mother, Maryanne Robertson.
She will forever be known as Cherrinie Weenie, Reno or Cherno depending on what 'mood' she was in or what group you were from. The truly special quality about Cherrine was that there were no groups, clicks or classes that she wanted to belong to. She was a friend to all who knew her and her quick whit & humor will forever be missed. When you think of Cherrine, remember her beautiful blue eyes, her gorgeous blonde hair, her lively smile and generosity beyond compare.
Cherrine lived most of her life with diabetes. Shots, blood testing and diets were her life. You will never know how it feels to curb your appetite, avoid fruits, candy and desserts until you have a diabetes scare of your own in life. So when we say she enjoyed a Big Mac, French fries and Diet Coke like no one could, you’ll understand. Those trips to 7-eleven for a slurpee were quite eventful…especially if you expected her to walk straight and not fall and sprain her ankle after divulging in a large orange for herself! She kept us on our toes and laughing for all the years we knew and loved her. She will be forever missed and never forgotten!
Cherrine was lucky to meet a wonderful man in Andy Allen. He loved her more than life itself. They were married on January 13, 1995 in Sandy, Utah. Every time I hear “I only wanna be with you” by Hootie and the Blowfish I will see Cherrine in a long white wedding gown, being held by her husband at their wedding reception. (She had picked a country song as their first dance, but Andy had to show her how much she meant to him.)They knew the risks of having a family due to Cherrine’s health. But Cherrine would rather have had a minute of wonderful, than a lifetime of nothing special. Through the hardest of health trials she was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Taylor. Taylor was born early and spent her early months with Mom at the U of U medical center. Cherrine was completely and totally in love with her daughter. The sun and moon rose on that child and her Mommy watched her in total awe. It was a sad day when Cherrine went into kidney failure shortly after having Taylor. But she was one lucky lady to receive the gift of continued life from her own Mother, Maryanne Robertson. Her kidney transplant was successful for a while. She got to enjoy motherhood, family life and being a wife to Andy just a little while longer.
When the time came for Cherrine to return to her Heavenly Father, it was heartbreaking and life altering for all who knew her. She left a young daughter without a Mommy and the love of her life, Andy without his soul-mate. If there was anything Cherrine would have wanted us all to do is become a donor.
There is not a day that goes that goes by without one of us thinking of and remembering Cherrine. We lost a good friend too soon. We love and miss her very much! Laura (Hancock) Quaney and Marlene (Reyes) Norris.
